Many family reunification procedures require proof of stable, regular and sufficient income, proof that must often be provided by the reference person of the family reunification, i.e. the person who opens the right to family reunification.
The Belgian government wants to avoid at all times that the reference person and his family become dependent on social assistance and this strict income condition must guarantee that the reference person and his family can provide for their (financial) needs themselves.
The level of the required net income must be at least equal to 120% of the living wage as laid down in the law of 26 May 2002 on the right to social integration. In recent years, this amount has steadily increased and on July 1, 2023, the threshold of 2000 euros was exceeded.
Candidates for family reunion who fall under the application of the income condition will henceforth have to proof an income of 2008.38 euros net per month.
